University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital is internationally renowned for caring for children with common to complex health conditions. Located on the east and west banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis and affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital provides a broad spectrum of pediatric programs and services.

Our mission is to be the leading source of hope and healing for children and adolescents and their families from Minnesota and across the nation. In support of this mission, we provide the highest quality health care through research and delivery of new knowledge for the care of children, the education of health care professionals and the practice of patient- and family-centered care.

The children’s hospital staff, University of Minnesota Physicians and community physicians work together to balance technology and treatments with personal care. Through teamwork and collaboration, we address the physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Innovative approaches have led to several firsts, including the first successful pediatric blood marrow transplant, infant heart transplant in Minnesota and cochlear ear implant surgery for a child. The hospital also is home to Minnesota’s only children’s behavioral inpatient unit and programming exclusively devoted to children ages 12 and younger.

Through our partnership with the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics, our research places us among the top 30 for children’s hospitals in the nation. The department ranks among the top 20 among academic institutions for total award dollars received from the National Institutes of Health. Our vision is to be one of the leading children’s hospitals and children’s research centers in the nation.
