When Renee was 33 weeks pregnant, Lee Pyles, M.D., a University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital pediatric cardiologist, diagnosed her unborn baby, Ben, with a congenital heart defect. A fetal echocardiogram — an ultrasound test performed during pregnancy to evaluate the heart of baby —made the in utero diagnosis possible and is one of the many services that the new Pediatric Heart Clinic at Fairview Southdale Hospital (Edina) offers. The clinic also offers general pediatric cardiology services.
The opening of this new clinic gives children and expectant mothers, who live in the southwest-metro area, convenient access to our pediatric cardiologists. Dr. Pyles and University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital pediatric cardiologist Parvin Dorostkar, M.D., are available to see patients at the Edina clinic on Friday afternoons. Dr. Dorostkar and Dr. Pyles are among the by the Best Doctors in America®.
Because of the fetal echocardiogram and early intervention, Ben is now a healthy 9-year-old who plays hockey, basketball, soccer and baseball. Ben continues to see Dr. Pyles for his annual heart check ups, and Renee plans on scheduling his next appointment at the new Pediatric Heart Clinic.
