For 50 years, The Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital has provided care to children from throughout the world who have CF. Based on our research, the philosophy of The Minnesota Cystic Fibrosis Center is to diagnose and start appropriate treatment at the earliest age possible to prevent or attenuate the rate of disease progression.
Our CF team’s clinical research applied to patient care, has led to our patients — ages 6 to 17 years old — having the best lung function in
the nation. Our Center is the only one in Minnesota and one of only 13 nationally, designated by The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a Translational and Therapeutics Development Center. Such allows our patients to be among the first to participate in the development of better treatments for this disease. In addition, our Center was the first program in Minnesota to offer infant pulmonary-function testing, and nasal potential difference testing.
Because CF often affects several body organs and functions — and related complications can vary by patient age — our CF experts, specialists, geneticists, and counselors work together as a team. Our multispecialty team approach, which includes patients and their families in care and treatment planning, ensures the most comprehensive care is provided to each patient.
