Patient Stories
From A to Z, I was impressed
“I took my son, Chandler, to the emergency department at your children’s hospital on Labor Day. Poor Chandler had a freak accident at the park Sept. 5. For 24 hours, I thought the poor guy had just pulled a muscle. But, as his pain continued, I knew something else must be wrong. I never would have imagined he broke his femur.
I went to the children’s hospital knowing orthopedics is a specialty. I knew there was a children’s wing, but I did not understand it’s more than a wing—it’s a passion.
From the moment I arrived in the emergency department to the minute I drove away after discharge, my family was made a priority. It is nice to see health care workers who still have passion for their jobs and their patients. I can tell you firsthand that many hospitals have lost this touch. From A to Z, I was impressed: The staff was great, the facility was clean, the food was good and was easy to access with an impatient toddler.
I can’t say “thank you” enough for all the wonderful help. We express our gratitude to all who touched our hearts and made a serious situation much easier to handle.
I was in emergency medical services for 13 years—including 10 as a paramedic—and, all these years, I’ve never thought of University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital when parents ask for suggestions. But, that was a big mistake. Now, I am so excited to spread the word and start to direct parents to the new children’s hospital, with its dedicated pediatric emergency department."
