They are here to assist you every step of the way at our Transplant Center, which is one of only a few in the country offering intestinal transplant for children.

We provide therapy to children with conditions such as:

Short bowel syndrome
Symptoms include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Pale, greasy stools
  • Swelling, especially of the legs
  • Foul-smelling stools
  • Weight loss

Severe complications of total parenteral nutrition therapy ( intravenous feeding)
Symptoms include:
  • Distended neck veins
  • Swelling of the face

Intestinal obstructions, or blockage in the small intestine
Symptoms include:
  • Abdominal cramps that come and go
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Inability to have a bowel movement or pass gas
  • Swelling of the abdomen

Congenital intestinal atresia, or incomplete forming of the intestine
Symptoms include:
  • No stool passed
  • Swollen belly from gas
  • Vomiting (vomit may be yellow or greenish in color)
  • Lack of desire to eat

Intestinal tumors
Symptoms include:
  • A change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool
  • Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
  • Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
  • A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss

Intestinal failure
Symptoms include:
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Weakness
  • Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
