Hematology - Oncology

For the fourth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report ranks cancer treatment at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital among the nation's best. University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital is ranked among the nation’s best in eight medical specialties.
If you have a child with an anemia, a blood-clotting disorder (either bleeding or thrombotic disorder), cancer or immune deficiency, we want to do everything possible to restore him or her to health. Our dedicated pediatric cancer doctors are continuously developing new treatments for treating and curing childhood cancers, from common to complex.
The strength of partnering with University of Minnesota Medical School
Our affiliation with University of Minnesota Medical School means kids with cancer can receive innovative treatments and benefit from new technology they can’t get anywhere else.
- Ours is the only Pediatric Oncology Phase 1 program in the five-state region. This means we’re able to offer more clinical trials than any other children’s hospital in the region, giving patients access to new treatments before they are widely available.
- We have one of the nation’s most advanced survivorship programs. Cures sometimes come with medical consequences, and our specialists are committed to helping cancer survivors live full and productive lives through long-term follow up.
- We house the largest pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program in the nation, allowing a continuum of care should a child need a Blood Marrow Transplant.
Program physicians are leaders within the Children’s Oncology Group, developing the standards by which children with cancer across the nation and with world are treated.
Complete, collaborative care at a new hospital
University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital opened in April 2011. It is designed for teamwork and collaboration with patients and families, and has services and support for the entire family. There are large, private patient rooms, family lounges, a Family Resource Center and Children’s Library.
Cooperation and communication between specialties is a key factor in our success, and encompasses colleagues in radiation therapy, physical therapy, nutrition, pharmacy, Child-Family Life, social work and more. Interdisciplinary collaboration of the specialists and services children need to get better are all under one roof.
