Hospitalist Program

UMACH_specialty_hospitalist

Consistency and continuity of your child's care is important during a hospital stay. With this in mind, University of Minnesota Children's Hospital created an inpatient pediatric hospitalist program, the first of its kind in the Twin Cities. The duties of a hospitalist include all aspects of patient care—from admission to discharge—as well as teaching, research and administrative responsibilities. Hospitalists manage and coordinate all care throughout a hospital stay, working closely with primary care physicians or specialists.
Benefits of the hospitalist program include:

  • Timely, ongoing communication with your child's primary care physician after arrival at the hospital, after initial evaluation, during your child's stay and as your child leaves the hospital

  • Collaborative approach between University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital physicians and referring providers, with a shared goal of returning your child to your primary care provider for ongoing care

  • Convenient, around-the-clock access to University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital's pediatric specialty services

  • Single referral and consultation access phone number for physicians, 888-KIDS-UMN, staffed by patient access specialists, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
