Making advances in dermatology and rare skin diseases

Children and teens can be self-conscious about how their skin looks—what they see may be a simple condition or a complex disease. Our specialists at University of Minnesota Children's Hospital are here to handle your child's needs.

Using the latest technologies, including laser treatments, many procedures are performed in a sedation center designed for your child or teen's comfort.

Our dermatologists are members of teams that work together on diseases that require the expertise of many specialists. The Center for Pediatric Lesions, for example, is for children with complex venous (vascular) malformations that are difficult to treat. They often require the collaboration of the many specialists who through the center can provide a single place to evaluate and treat your child.

In addition, our dermatologists are members of the team of experts from a variety of medical specialties who established the world’s first dedicated program to treat the rare skin disease epidermolysis bullosa. Pioneered by the researchers in the Blood and Marrow Transplant program, They work with experts, for example, in genetics, hematology and oncology, interventional radiology, neonatology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, plastic surgery and rheumatology to create treatments for the most challenging illnesses that children experience.
