Pediatric gastroenterologists in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center (IBD) at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital are part of the hospital’s gastroenterology team recognized by U.S. News & World Report in 2013 as being among the nation's best.

The IBD team is a member of ImproveCareNow, a group of 33 centers around the world that share research and quality improvement ideas to establish new, fact-based models of care for treating inflammatory bowel disease. ImproveCareNow physicians are dedicated to sharing information to provide your child the most effective care and treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Childhood treatment gives your child an advantage
Of the million people in the United States that are affected by IBD, a group of conditions involving the colon and small intestine, 25 percent developed the disease during childhood. Starting high-quality care to manage these conditions in childhood gives your child an advantage in life. Tell your doctor this is where you would like him or her to send your child for care.

Conditions we treat
  • Crohn’s disease (involving any region of the gastrointestinal tract, mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine or colon)
  • Eosinophilic gastroenteritis
  • Indeterminate colitis
  • Proctitis
  • Ulcerative colitis (involving only the large intestine)

Services we provide
  • Growth assessment and treatment
  • Individual treatment planning and follow-up care
  • Nutritional evaluations
  • Nutritional therapy to induce remission of Crohn’s disease
  • Parental oversight and support committee
