Children's Academy provides school away from home
Click here to read more from the Minneapolis Public School District
The Children’s Academy is a free school program for students in regular or special education programs who are currently receiving medical care through University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview. The school program serves students in grades K-12, as well as pre-school children who are currently enrolled in their resident district’s special education program. Parents will need to complete a Minneapolis Public Schools registration form prior to enrolling their child in this school program. This form can be obtained from your social workers, nurses, or the Children’s Academy teacher, Juli Evers. We will work with your resident school district to determine if and when educational support services can begin. Students are usually taught in their hospital room or in the classroom, located on 5th floor near the public restrooms, for 30-60 minutes a day using curriculum from their resident school, if available. We can accommodate children with special needs due to physical limitations, therapy, or clinic scheduling. Children’s Academy, funded by Minneapolis Public Schools, follows the school district calendar. A schedule will be provided upon enrollment. For more information, or to reach the Academy's teacher Juli Evers, call 612-273-7000. | |||
