Children's Cancer Research Fund
At University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview, a nationally and internationally recognized team of pediatric hematologist/oncologists provides comprehensive care for children with a wide range of malignant and non-malignant diseases. Expert consultation and management is available for children with anemia, including Sickle Cell Disease and congenital anemias, disorders of blood clotting (both bleeding and thrombotic disorders), cancer, immune deficiency and for long-term survivors of childhood cancers. We have access to conventional as well as innovative therapies created at the University of Minnesota and throughout the United States. Many new cancer treatments for children with cancer were developed by University of Minnesota Physicians and are now part of national treatment standards used across the nation. We deliver family-focused and patient-centered care. Our comprehensive care team includes professionals who support patients’ medical, social, economic and psychological health.

Research Care at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview combines the best of a children’s hospital and academic medicine. Within the setting of a family-centered care model, patients have access to the newest medical knowledge delivered by physicians and scientists at the cutting edge of their fields. One example of this is the University of Minnesota Pediatric Advanced Therapies Program. The Advanced Therapies Program is an integrated clinical and translational research program that provides innovative therapies for pediatric and young adult patients with high-risk cancers. The clinical program incorporates a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach for patients with metastatic and relapsed cancers. Program activities include new anti-cancer drugs, autologous stem cell transplantation and chemoprotectants, signal transduction inhibitors, cell cycle inhibitors, biological therapies and immunotherapies. In addition, faculty at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview are leaders in the long-term follow up of childhood cancer survivors, leukemia therapies, and bone tumor research. | |||
