Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are the single highest cause of developmental disabilities in children. The effects of the disorders include physical, mental, behavioral and/or learning disabilities, which all have lifelong implications. University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital has one of the largest programs in the U.S. for diagnosis of fetal alcohol syndrome.
Through our program, we offer collaborative care to our patients. Together, pediatricians, pediatric neuropsychologists, pediatric psychologists, occupational therapists, and speech-language clinicians, work together to develop individual treatment plans for patients. The program staff also collaborates with special Education Services of Minneapolis Public Schools and the Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
