The creation of a new home for University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital brings together our pediatric and maternal services in one location. It is the first phase of our plan to replace and modernize facilities to best serve all of our patients. In addition, the children’s hospital will address the importance of keeping our region’s health care strong by attracting to the University of Minnesota the best pediatric caregivers, researchers and faculty to speed breakthroughs in care to patients and educate future generations of Minnesota pediatricians.
University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview is located on the east and west banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. The new children's hospital will be on the Riverside Campus, located on the West Bank.
The University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview construction began in May 2008, and completion is expected in early 2011. Significant changes marked the start of construction of the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview building on the Riverside campus. The Green parking lot, East building main entrance and Seventh Street between 24th and 25th avenues closed and the West building lobby entrance is the new main entrance for the medical center and children's hospital until the new facility opens.
