Meet Neil
For most 14-year-olds, pain and swelling in the knee is the result of a fall off a bike, or a slide into home plate. For Neil and his parents, Sarah and Bill, it was the start of a long journey, fraught with emotional highs and lows. Neil had been experiencing discomfort in his knee at night for several months; the discomfort progressed into swelling and sharp pain that was treated with ice and OTC pain medication without relief.  “That’s when we decided to take him into the doctor – it just didn’t seem to be getting better,” said Bill.

Meet Kurt
Kurt says that he will never forget his last week of elementary school. Instead of looking forward to summer vacation and spending time with friends, Kurt’s week was scheduled with doctor visits to determine the cause of a lump on his neck.

Meet Mathew
When 6-year-old Mathew found out he had Burkitt’s lymphoma, a cancer that grows in the lymphatic system, he didn’t feel bad for himself. Instead, always looking on the bright side, he was excited for the opportunity to ride in an ambulance while being transported from his provider in St. Cloud, Minn. to receive treatment at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.
