The anesthesiology department at University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview has 20 board-certified anesthesiologists, two of them with Fellowship experience in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care. Pediatric anesthesiology is the subspecialty of anesthesiology devoted to the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative anesthetic care of pediatric patients.
Pediatric anesthesiologists provide
- Evaluation of complex medical problems in infants and children when surgery is needed
- Planning and care before and after surgery
- A patient-friendly environment for children in the operating room
- Pain control after surgery, either with intravenous (IV) medications or other anesthetic techniques
- Anesthesia and sedation for many nonoperating room procedures such as MRI, CT scan, radiation therapy and respiratory and airway management
