The Adoption Medicine Program and Clinic at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital provides services to children who have been adopted from countries outside of the United States as well as children who were adopted domestically. To date, the program has provided services to children from more than 30 different countries.
The program's staff provides pre-adoption consultations - about 100 each month - to parents who have adopted or plan to adopt children, to discuss the outcomes of various medical diagnoses and country-specific medical issues. Since the program’s inception in 1986, the Adoption Medicine Program staff has reviewed the pre-adoption medical records of more than 20,000 children worldwide.
University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital was the first in the United States to offer both pre- and post-adoption health and medical services to internationally adopted children.
