Turtle Derby 2014 – Join us for this grand event
What is the Turtle Derby?
The Turtle Derby at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital is an annual fundraising event that provides many of the extras that make our children's hospital a healing place with a heart. The summer event takes place on our plaza and is open to the public. Families can cheer on real turtles from the sidelines, play games, indulge in a turtle sundae and much more.

The event takes place on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota Campus, in front of University of Minnesota Amplatz Children’s Hospital.

Our planning committee is already planning the 28th Turtle Derby in June 2014. If you have a suggestion or an interest in volunteering at the 2014 event, please contact Dawn Stahlmann.

You can also make a gift to support the Turtle Derby through the Fairview Foundation any time of the year.

Thank you for a great 2013 derby!
Thanks to all the patients, families and staff who came out in 2013 to make our 27th Turtle Derby a wonderful day. In addition to having lots of fun, you helped us raise funds that go toward the extras that assure children that they are special during their stays at University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital.

A special thanks to RAD Zoo for the turtles this year.

Congratulations to the 2013 Grandest Turtle of All

We consider all of our reptile friends to be winners, but a few walked away with official prizes:

Grandest Turtle of All: Thomas
2nd Place: Shell Shocker
3rd Place: FA Warrior

Where is the event, and how many people usually attend?
Our campus address is 2450 Riverside Ave. (at 25th Avenue), Minneapolis, MN 55454. The event location is marked on the map. We expect 2,500 or more people.

Where do I park?
You can park for an hourly fee in the Yellow or Red ramps (access them from Riverside and 23rd Avenues). Metered street parking is available in the blocks near our event, though it is limited.

How much does it cost to attend the turtle derby?
The Turtle Derby is FREE to attend. Parking, food and some activities do have a small cost, but we offer many free activities to make the Turtle Derby a budget-friendly outing.

What happens if my turtle is named “The Grandest Turtle of All?”
Aside from endless bragging rights, you get a fancy plaque honoring your turtle’s achievement and a cake! If you sponsored “The Grandest Turtle of All,” but were unable to attend, we will donate the cake to a patient family and will send you the plaque and some Turtle Derby swag.

How can I help/volunteer?
The Turtle Derby thrives on the kindness and passion of our volunteers, many of whom are enthusiastic hospital staff. If you have a particularly special skill or donation that you feel could enhance our event, please email Zan Godschalx.

How are the raised funds used?
Contact Zan Godschalx for a list of selected projects we have funded in the last five years to give you an idea of where your contributions go.
